CEFALÙ – HALF DAY TOUR 

Hotel pickup. Depart to Cefalù. After about a 1-hour trip, we will arrive at Cefalù, this fishing village located in the province of Palermo. We will take a walk through the historic center of the town admiring its narrow streets, the Roman washhouse and especially the Arab-Norman Cathedral. 

At the mouth of the Cefalino creek sits the evocative medieval washouse, whose piles dug in the rock were used by the women of Cefalù until recently. At present, its renovation for touristic use allowed to admire an imprint of the distant past and to the same recent one of Cefalú. 

The Cefalù Cathedral declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site was erected by Roger II in 1131 in gratitude, according to legend, to the coast of Cefalù that allowed him to save himself from the shipwreck that threatened his ship during a storm. The facade is formed with two huge square towers that give this Norman cathedral an air of strength. The apse of the Cathedral of Cefalù brings together one of the most spectacular mosaic complexes of Byzantine in Sicily, with the Pantocrator of the evangelizing Christ characteristic of Byzantine art, with the wicks on the forehead, the Norman blond hair, the eyebrows and dark Arab beards , and the thin and straight nose in the Greek style. 

At the end of the visit, return to Palermo.
