Segesta, Erice and Trapani - Private Tour from Palermo

  • Segesta
  • Medieval town of Erice Marsala
  • Trapani "Via del Sale" (Salt Road)

Depart to Segesta, one of the biggest original cities in Sicily, to visit the Doric temple built in the 5th Century BC (optional entrance fee). Remarkably well-preserved, the temple is unique not only for its columns but also because the city’s main population was never Greek. Continue to Erice, a medieval mountaintop village that seems straight out of a movie, including its 14t Century cathedral.

Segesta - Piazza Benedetto Cairoli, 90123 Palermo PA, Italy

In the morning, departure for Segesta where we will visit the Doric Temple surrounded by a wonderful natural landscape. The temple of Segesta is a Greek archeological site or Elima, named after the Elymians, one of the first inhabitants of this part of Sicily.

We will continue to Erice, located 400 meters above sea level from where you can enjoy a spectacular view over the eastern coast of Sicily. On Mount San Giuliano, at 751 meters height, Erice emerges; the name of this beautiful town derives from the Italian-Sicilian Eryx, which means ‘Monte’. The panorama obtained from the city is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Sicily, with views of the Trapani salt flats and the Egadi Islands in the background. We will take a walk through the old town reaching the Cathedral and Eryx Castle

In the afternoon we will transfer to the Nubia (Trapani) salt flats. The itinerary called "Via del Sale" (Salt Road) faces its irregular row of mills that draw a landscape that Cervantes already evoked. The mounds of salt, covered with terracotta tiles look like blankets that safeguard the salt. In Nubia, in the territory of the Paceco Salt Plans, we can visit the Salt Museum, located in an old mill. Currently, salt is still extracted in a traditional way, just as a symbol, generating a type of salt of great quality, and cost at the price of gold. The salt flats, rose-colored, look like flocks grazed by the old mills, whose blades despite not turning, monitor the mounds of salt collected by mechanical extraction systems. At the sunset, the mills say goodbye to the sun, hiding the last sky lines of Trapani behind the sea.
